Yesterday myself and Ben attended a seminar with Master Sken. The seminar covered creative aspects of Muay Thai and Muay Boran and its implications to self defence and self protection...

This is the first time that I have tried Muay Thai / Muay Boran  so I thought this be a great experience to train  and learn with one of the worlds Muay Thai Greats.

Master Sken explained his teaching philosophy and methodology of how he teaches his students and instructors. For instance everything is done in a fluid rhythm, he has 100 + plus predefined combination and knows each one delicately.

The seminar consisted of basic balance and rhythm drills. When I say basic, basic for him but not for me and Ben, it looked easy but the application was anything just. This was followed by some basic conditioning drills one of which was to perform mai geri and keep your leg extend at waist height for 15 seconds. Try it and see.

We then covered the basics of Muay Thai from kneeing, knee blocking and punching.

Then some pad work and conditioning, conditioning being the optimum word.

Then we did some Muay Boran, lethal self defence application.

The seminar was awe inspiring and Master Sken gave us a little insight into his passion and philosophy of his teaching of Muay Thai. He looks much younger than his actually years this is probably due to sacrifice he made in his life to become as world renewed Martial arts practioner. Master Sken brought one of his students a 16 year lad who has only been training with Master Sken for 9 months. The young lad was breath-taking, it really does demonstrate if you’re dedicated to your sport and willing to put the time in what can be achieved in a short period of time. You had to see it to believe it.

I will definitely take some of his ideas and utilise them in my lesson especially in kumite I think it will benefit the students in immensley, if not it definitely keep them fit. Remember it all about the rhythm.
